American Gothic
Wayfarer
WAYFARER's fifth album, “American Gothic,” is as deep as it is dark.
Entering the Gateways
Disguised Malignance
Just when I think I’m over Death Metal, a band like DISGUISED MALIGNANCE comes along and makes me reevaluate my assumptions.
In Waves
Fall of Leviathan
The best part of the album for me is the mystery that lies somewhere between the heavier structure and the more delicate ones, creating an unsettling feeling of sorts. This was a good first effort from the band, although I know there are capable of better.
Quad Brutal
Austrian Death Machine
AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE is back! Hear to this fine piece of music that blends Thrash Metal, Metalcore, Crossover and more!
AR
Kollapse
One of the best parts of the music is that thick bass guitar…this is an instrument that can really drive home feelings of isolation and emptiness, and man does it ever. Combine this with the tortured vocals and bleak guitars, and you have a recipe for total black isolation.
Funeral For A King
Stygian Crown
This is the next logical step for the band and they have successfully bypassed the dreaded sophomore slump and released an album that is as good, if not better, than their strong debut.
Paradigm Call
Saturnalia Temple
I’m happy to report that “Paradigm Call” continues to cement the band's unique sound onto the ever growing pantheon of doom metal.
Old Eyes, New Heart
Madder Mortem
This was a fairly unusual sound that many fans of music will either connect with or not. It’s very personal music, which by definition means it has a niche, and I am not sure what that niche is. I found much of the album to my liking however.
Unhealthy Mechanisms
Go Ahead and Die
Overall, although the riff are punishing, and the vocals brutal, that’s about where the story begins and ends. Nothing about this album is exciting, amusing, or original.
Envy
Fortress Under Siege
Although their sound was tight, the production excellent, and their musicianship strong, they didn’t do enough to separate themselves from many other bands in this style.
Darkness
The OddEven
Are you ready for this new sensation into Alternative Metal? So dive into this album!
Still Alive
Reveal
This sextet is still alive after the andemic, and is back for another Heavy/Power Metal assault!
Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation
Kryptoxik Mortality
A new potential great name for Brutal Death Metal.
Closer to the Truth
Kings Crown
A mix between influences of 70s and 80s Hard Rock can be found here!
Ritual
Edge Of Forever
The Italian quartet is back, so hear to it, and the others must stay out of their way!
Death Machine
Demons of Noon
This sextet dares to defy Sludge Metal models by using Doom/Gothic Metal influences.
Last Day of Sun
Fuming Mouth
Although the album was decent, 12 songs is just a bit of overkill, especially when too many of the songs have a similar sound, structure, and vocal cadence. You have to give it up for a guy with a cancer diagnosis however, it takes courage beyond comprehension to survive something like that.
Live in the Valley
Whitechapel
I have to admit that I am not exactly a fan of Deathcore, but somehow WHITECHAPEL has slipped through my defences and given me a lot to enjoy.
Trinity
Ronnie Atkins
When you listen to “Trinity”, the opening title song will have you humming or even singing along straight away, that’s how powerful it’s pull is.
Escape to Nowhere (Reissue)
Omen
OMEN are a typical US Heavy and Power Metal band that comes from Los Angeles. They have had two lives. The first one from 1983 until 1989. In that time they released four studio albums, of which the one I am reviewing today, “Escape To Nowhere”, is the last in line, originally released in 1988.
Eschaton II - Judgment Day
Man Machine Industry
MAN MACHINE INDUSTRY show a lot of promise, quality and dedication on these songs. Reason for me to delve into their past.
Triangle Of The Lost
Donor
Am I happy that I finally have been able to get hold of their debut album “Triangle Of The Lost”? Well, yes, I certainly am, as their brand of Progressive Thrash metal is very addictive and contagious.
Release
Donor
The first thing to notice is the massive difference in the vocals on “Release” in comparison to those used on “Triangle Of The Lost”. This is understandable and logical, as Richard Dijkman has a totally different vocal range than his predecessor.
Merciless Storm
Malicious
In such instances, my main criticism on an album like this is that it is very short, and might as well just be one song, because all of them sound similar. Besides their energy, there is very little else to talk about here.
Furnace
Herzog
Black Metal doesn’t have to stand still, and the lines don’t always have to be so linear. “Furnace” is an example of one that pushed the boundaries forward, rather than relying on the past.
50th Anniversary Live – First Night
Blue Oyster Cult
“50th Anniversary Live – First Night” is the live album that does the legacy of BoC justice.
Vanitas Vitae
Krâel
Lyrically and conceptually, A+. As for the music, Black Metal is the perfect medium to convey this dark allegory.
The Path of Decoherence
Advocacy
For a debut album, it’s good, and they have the potential for something even better the next go around. The band obviously has the chops, and the vocal harmonies are sweet, they just need some time to find their signature sound, and let more melody develop.
A Bridge To Eternal Darkness
Dethroned
All in all, “A Bridge To Eternal Darkness” certainly isn’t a terrible album but it also isn’t overly interesting or exciting. After a couple listens, there isn’t a real need to visit again.
Towards A Futile Existence
Escarion
a very impressive album from a band that shows the sky's the limit with their sound. I will definitely be sticking along for the ride.
1982
Sodom
1982” is a time travel to the beginnings of one of the most successful Thrash Metal bands of all time
Exiled To Earth
Insurrection
“Exiled To Earth” follows a well-tried melodic Death Metal concept inspired by some of the great Swedish melodeath bands
Expedition One
Metalite
“Expedition One” is an easy-to-listen album with too much catchiness, too many electronics, too much Pop with guitars, and too little substance
The Great Divide
Beyond God
“The Great Divide” blends the best of symphonic Metal and blackened symphonic Death Metal and the songs range from ballads to punishing blast-beat driven Death Metal
Safe On The Other Side
High Spirits
So, if guys that play instruments get all the chicks, what does the guy that plays ALL the instruments get? Think about that because HIGH SPIRITS is a one-man musical extravaganza that does just that.
Fall To The Hate
Blud Red Roses
When a band has a kick-ass name and kick-ass album artwork your expectations are usually sky high. Can BLUD RED ROSES deliver the goods?
