Psygnosis – Mercury
November 21, 2023
Obviously skilled, they show a maturity in songwriting ability that doesn’t come around every day. I found the album to be mysterious, intriguing, and right in my wheelhouse.
review
Drip Fed Empire – Revolutionist
November 21, 2023
This was a good album in terms of the band melding many modern elements into their sound. It’s one possible direction in the Metal scene today, and the band performs their brand of music with confidence, and direction. Some fans might find the heavy electronic sound to be inauthentic, but I liked it. It made the album sound full, and rich.
review
Altars of the Moon – The Colossus and the Widow
November 21, 2023
By the end of the album, the weight of the tones take effect like a constantly building buzz inside your head that slowly drives you insane. This is an example of an album that can say so much with so little sonority, and the listener can easily get swept up in it all.
review
Myrkur – Spine
November 21, 2023
Her gorgeous voice is probably the best part of the album for me. You can feel her trying to find that elusive balance amidst the storm. In the end, I find that she does.
review
Shylmagoghnar – Convergence
November 21, 2023
This album felt like a journey through the cosmos for me. It’s amazing that this was composed by one person, because it is meticulous in its approach. Every note was in the right place, every pause, and every turn. This is one Black Metal release this year that has something for everyone.
review
Dreamwalkers Inc - The First Tragedy of Klahera
November 21, 2023
The album ran the gamut from angry and frustrated to happy and celebratory at times. We have all felt like that little girl at some point in life, and tying in this element to the music made it feel personal. The musicians were excellent, and the various shades of the story kept things interesting.
review
Ramage Inc – Humanity Has Failed
November 21, 2023
Taking on a concept album of this magnitude was ambitious, indeed. A couple of songs weren’t as memorable as the entire album as a whole, so the band can work on that. But the message was strong and the music was strong. Enjoy this album as I did.
review
DGM – Life
November 21, 2023
Being around since 1996 and this being their 11th studio album, they have to constantly fight the urge to release songs of their past and hang onto the formulas which define their sound. But they fight this hard, and the result is an excellent combination of Progressive elements with melodic ones.

review
Underdark – Managed Decline
November 21, 2023
When you consider the amount of negativity that is out there it’s almost too much. Instead, you rise in the morning, pack your lunch, go to work, and worry about yourself.

review
Lightcrusher – Constructed Stars of Mortared Bone (Reissue)
November 21, 2023
it is not winning any awards for musicianship or songwriting. The band has some talent, and this was obviously an early effort, where the amateur qualities come through strongest.
review
Razumikhin – Self Made Monster
November 21, 2023
One might say that it lacked a clear vision, but I dismiss that and appreciate the band’s willingness to explore. Too many musicians just play it safe. What the duo did on “Self Made Monster” pulled Black Metal from the trenches and brought it to new heights.
review
Helga – Wrapped in Mist
November 21, 2023
This was a very well constructed album in the genre. The band knows when to turn it up, and when and how to let the melodies ride out. It was quite beautiful, but also dangerous when needed.
review
Autarkh – Emergence
November 21, 2023
Contemporary metal adventures, indeed. This is unique and imaginative music in every sense of those words. The backbone is impenetrable and unyielding, but the band also play with melodies like an alchemist trying to create the fountain of youth. This is an album that encompasses all that you would want to hear from the Metal genre.
review
Morne – Engraved With Pain
November 21, 2023
This is one album that does not even hint at catharsis, or absolution. Whatever tomb you managed to build for yourself will be the one that you will lay in, eternally.
review
Dokken – Heaven Comes Down
November 21, 2023
Many of the songs just lacked that ummph that made the band famous. Some harmonies and melodies were present, but it sounded more like a Don Dokken solo album for me, and they just did not have any of the energy that they used to have.
