Rapture - Malevolent Demise Incarnation album cover

Within the hallowed wastes of humanity lies the scourge of the ages, vessels devoid of life and poorly lived, fellows inept in understanding the strength which abandon carries with it, formless entities shaping ruin incarnate such animosities are the resulting dilemmas of morality, hubris, and of depressing vision, and few better express such than RAPUTRE. Borne of these manners of hatred RAPTURE now lies in their 9th year having just released their 3rd studio album, the aptly titled Malevolent Demise Incarnation.

The LP opens up with the title track, "Malevolent Demise Incarnation," a cut-throat and relentlessly driven tyrannical vision fitted with the visage of doomsday and genocide all carefully crafted into a brutal piece; the outro briefly comes to juxtaposes the whole of the track preceding it as it descends into a soft, albeit macabre, movement before returning to a more corrosive progression and ending therein. "Inanimate Frigidity" is the second track on the listing and follows much into the same niche as its predecessor containing a focus on unabated instruments paralleled with guttural voicings focused in on obsolescence and obsession. The first track on the B side is "I Am Become Death" which contains a bit more breathing room than the tracks to come before it-the inclusion of a build up is of note in this track specific and the repetition of the phrasing which would grow to become the main theme and eventually derive into the verses. The very last track on the album, "Requiem For A Woeful Dynasty (Momento Mori)" commences with a very slow buildup seeping more into the vein of Doom Metal than Death or Thrash; the verse for its part departs quite a ways from the introduction whereupon the song continues to grow in fervor for its entre progression before ending at on Latin phrasing.

The instruments do well to encapsulate the sensations of distress and paranoia throughout the whole of the album with the strings being particularly eerie; the disharmonic elements of the guitars coincide with the theming in order to create an off-putting soundscape. The bass is the powerhouse in the band having the bottom end all to itself wherein it lies clear, pristine, and forceful. The drums feel a bit off balance with the kick being louder than the rest of the kit but have to them a great performance that adds an underlying complexity to every song. Lastly, the vocals are a form all their own containing a reaching and desperate tone to them one which lies underneath the maddening roars and growls.

Malevolent Demise Incarnation is a powerful piece which wears its emotions on its sleeve, those of anger and wrath but unrestricted all the same. For anyone with a penchant towards Death Metal or the darker aspects of Thrash this album paints with vivid detail.
