War Dogs - Only The Stars Are Left
October 22, 2024
Spain is a country that is producing more and more bands that fit into the NWOTHM category. That in itself is quite commendable, as long as the bands in question make good music. One of those is WAR DOGS from Alicante, in the South of that country.

Wicked Maraya - The Mystic Demos
October 15, 2024
As for the musical direction, please forget what the band WICKED MARAYA was doing on their debut album, as MYSTIC is cut from a completely different cloth. There is nothing Epic about what I am listening to on “The Mystic Demos”. What we have here is a band trying to impress by playing straight forward and rather fast Heavy Metal, or what we now would call it Traditional Heavy Metal.

Against Evil - Give ‘Em Hell
September 24, 2024
Musically it is quite clear that AGAINST EVIL is getting their inspiration from the greats of old, like JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, MEGADETH, but most of all early ACCEPT. That is what is says in the bio, and if you listen carefully the first and the last one of the names are most relevant.

The Foreshadowing – New Wave Order
September 23, 2024
This is one case where the album’s clean vocals work very well with the music. I usually like my Doom with harsh vocals, because that pairing makes more sense. But, the cleans are so expressive and layered with harmonies. Add in all of the other elements, and you have a memorable album.
review
Aiwaz – Darrkh…It Is!
September 15, 2024
Much of their sound is steeped in the Doom genre, but there are also elements of hope mixed in with the despair. What I find tickled me most about the album was how heavy the emotional impact of the vocals was on their sound.
review
Sunbomb – Light Up The Sky
September 10, 2024
As someone who grew up with LA GUNS and STRYPER in the 80’s, I don’t have any need to keep listening to them, or any future iterations of them. Don’t get me wrong, they were both excellent bands, that forged the movement back in the day, and I listened to the shit out of them. This seemed like an odd pairing from the start however, and the music supported that for me.

Brocas Helm - Helm's Deep (The Demo Anthology)
August 16, 2024
The biggest plus of “Helm's Deep (The Demo Anthology)” is the fact that for a demo album is sounds bloody good. Every song is very distinguishable in sound, and not one of the instruments is being overshadowed by the others. This goes to show the level of professionalism BROCAS HELM has always been capable of bringing to the table.
