” Time” might be the greatest paradox of all, seeming to be completely useless when considering the world beyond Earth, yet absolutely critical to most human’s daily lives. What the album does for me in sum is make me wonder what else might be out there that I am allowed to question. For now, however, I will continue on like a rat in a maze.

Although all four songs are similar in length, scope, and sound, their effect on the listener can’t be underscored. The heavy, sludgy sound is so thick and deep, it builds at your feet to the point where there is no escape. It is desolation personified.

I loved being surprised by how good an album is, especially when I don’t know the band and it's this late in the year. “The Primitive Covenant” is a very impressive album and it will appeal to a wide range of metalheads. This is definitely one of the freshest sounding albums I’ve heard in this last half of the year.

All in all, this certainly isn’t a bad album because it does have several catchy choruses and the melodies really pop but beyond that, it didn’t really stick with me as much.

This was a decent selection of cover songs for the band to process, showing their take on the classics that influenced them. But I felt the selection could have been much better…maybe some KISS, RUSH, PRIEST, or even some different Black Metal bands from back in the day? It was an honest take on these classics, but didn’t show enough flavor or character for me.

The progressions…the meters…the unusual connections, or even lack thereof. All of these things make for a unique listening experience. However, some of the songs run together a bit, so the band could work to diversify their approach.
