If I write "Norway", I believe that all the readers with think of Black Metal. Yes, the Norwegian musical scene is famous throughout the world due to Black Metal bands, but it's not the only musical genre that is played there. But it's unbelievable that there's a Progressive Rock band there. So RING VAN MÖEBIUS is a surprising name, and the work "Past the Evening Sun" is really hard to swallow. But pay attention: I said "it's really hard to swallow", and not that it's a loss of time or bad. It's the opposite: it's very good!

Obviously that Progressive Rock with its experimental approach, ethereal voyages and Jazz "noir" aura is not for those ones who prefer aggressive and short songs. The instrumental minimalist, rhythmic changes and all those fine elements that make the happiness of the fans can be found on their work that can bring to our minds names as GENESIS, NEKTAR, JETHRO TULL and others. But keep you your minds: this band has a strong personality. They use a sound quality that will bring your minds to the past, back to the 70's, with a more organic sound. Obviously, it's not moldy and sounding raw as in the past, but it is really seems like an album recorded in the golden days of Progressive Rock. The main difference is that the instrumental tunes are defined in a way that wasn't possible back then.

The album has only three songs, being the shorter one "End of Greatness" (with more than five seconds, filled with tender "noir" melodies). The other two are giants: "Past the Evening Sun" lasts more than 20 minutes of experimental parts, with very good rhythmic changes, Jazz atmosphere and a solid instrumental, with some touches of Groove here and there; and "Chasing the Horizon" lasts more than 11 minutes, going from tender and introspective parts to chaotic and Jazz parts, with fine vocals' tunes. For those who miss the past of Progressive Rock, "Past the Evening Sun" is an excellent album that must be on your particular collection; for those who weren't invited to Progressive Rock, here's a very good chance.
