Since the coming of DEATH's "Scream Bloody Gore", Death Metal gained solid and strong foundations. The main legacy left by Chuck Schuldiner is simple: don't limit yourself by labels, do the music that is in your heart. So, as all his predecessors, Chuck believed in making different forms of a same style. His heritage is present in North American quintet MOUNTAIN GRAVE's musical work, and "Massive Structural Collapse" is here to show it. They play a brutal and extremely aggressive form of Blackened Death Metal, throwing a chaotic mass of sound into our ears. If you pay attention, they have a very good technical work, and some crude melodies and keyboards to give a somber scent to their songs. All members of the band are in good shape, and besides the fact that this formula is already in use by few bands, their way has a powerful and strong musical personality. It is different from the others, so it's opening way for some future possibilities.

The sound quality of "Massive Structure Collapse" is very good, indeed. They keep their musical aggressiveness evident, but without that leaving aside the matter that we must understand what the band is playing. In other words: the quality of the album is clear enough to make their songs comprehensible for our eras. All of the band's songs are really amazing, surprising a lot the listeners, so be prepared for the shock. Their finest shots: "Approaching Thyone" brings a strong and aggressive approach, done with very good guitar riffs until certain point of the song, where some experimental elements begin to sprout (showing very good rhythmic changes); the slow paced tempos of "The Final Dimensions of Blight", showing very good guitar riffs and some technical parts with high pitched vocals; the astonishing Death/Thrash guitar riffs on "Mechanized Colony" (and it's filled with very good technical moments and fine vocals); the brutality exposed on "Lair of the Wretcher" (where some Black Metal and Hardcore elements appear in some moments); and the abusively extreme "Pursued by Wolves". They are pretty good, and will conquer those who hear this album.
