Last Fair Deal Gone Down
Katatonia
Katatonia continue what they started with the Discouraged Ones. After the amazing Tonight's Decision, they return with a dark jewel for anyone into atmospheric, moody music.
Jonas sounds more mature than ever, he adds an amazing feeling to each and every song, without repeating himself or becoming boring. I bet this guy can make even Eagle Fly Free sound melancholic.
The music has progressed a lot too, nothing sounds the same anymore. You can also see that the band experimented in some songs a bit, like We Must Bury You, where there is a slight electronic element, but nothing that follows the late synth fashion.
It all relies on melancholic lyrics, a deep sad voice, two guitars that add a feeling from the darkest feelings to some happy outbursts. Needless to say that Mattias and Daniel also fill in a great work.
I would dare to say that Katatonia reminded me a bit of Paradise Lost's Believe In Nothing, just perhaps more emotional, and more on the metal side, without lots of electronic elements, at least not many to notice. Chrome, Tonight's Music, We Must Bury You, Teargas are some of the great songs to name a few. An amazing work and one of the most emotional albums I've heard since Anathema's Alternative 4. Definately recommended for the fans of this style.
