What Horrors Await (Reissue)
Jungle Rot
There are many reasons for reissues. The most usual of them is the demand from the new fans for the band's earlier material that isn't available anymore on physical media. It's an honest reason, and the North American Juggernaut called JUNGLE ROT is honest to the very bones. "What Horrors Await" is a very good album that deserves to be released once more.
It's a pure and old fashioned form of Death Metal that reminds a lot the North American School influenced by DEATH and POSSESSED. But they are an old band from the generation that came after the explosion of Floridian Death Metal scene, so they have that same simple technical insight and hooking brutal form of the past in their souls. Their work is really lovely, even being nothing different from what we heard before. The album was remixed and remastered. The songs are sounding great, with the old school feeling, but with the right sound quality, balancing their musical elements in the right way. The doses of musical weight, rawness and brutality are in their due proportions, but with a clean recording. The cover was redone as well.
This version has 14 songs, all of them being excellent harsh and fine pieces of Death Metal in its best form. But the oppressive weight and great riffs of "Worst Case Scenario" (bearing that slashing energy that we all like), the very good rhythmic work shown on "The Unstoppable" (there's a fine and excellent dose of Groove on it), the fast and catchy song called "Straightjacket Life", the charming tempos and great guttural grunts of "State of War", the fine contrast between slow parts with fast moments presented on "Two Faced Disgrace", the Death Metal onslaught of "What Horrors Await" (what excellent guitars!) and on "Atrocity" (bass guitar and drums created a strong and brutal rhythm here). But their version for "Invincible Force", and old hymn from German Mad Butchers of DESTRUCTION, is really amazing!
"What Horrors Await" is a killing Death Metal stab, and their new album is about to be released. Hope that bands as JUNGLE ROT can keep the old flame alive.
