Many Metal fans have the illusion that the 80's were the golden times of German Metal scene, and there's nothing more of good that came out of the country since then. It's not true, for in the 90's, many strong names on Black Metal appeared there, as MYSTIC CYRCLE, NARGAROTH, NINNGHIZHIDDA and many more. But a feature that is interesting that the greater part of German Black Metal acts is hidden into the underground, and is rare to know something from their scene. And names as GROZA deserve to be known worldwide for Black Metal fans, for their first release, "Unified in Void", is really very good.

They have that touching, melodic and melancholic touch that is personal from German Black Metal scene, but they know how to be aggressive and sharp when the song demands. They use a very good set of rhythmic changes, work in a great shape on guitars, and the vocals uses a good set of tunes of voices. And their songs are really charming and darkened to the core, something that fans of Black Metal from the first half of the 80's miss. So if it is your case, let yourself be drown by their music.

The sound quality of "Unified in Void" was built to associate the rusty and aggressive insight of the band with something that could reveal their melodic work. The instrumental tunes are really loaded to the maximum, but it could be done in a cleaner way and the result would be better. It's not bad (remember: Black Metal must bear some raw and crude sound), but could be way better, for their music deserves it.

"Unified in Void" shows great harmonies and melodies, using excellent tempo changes (from fast and impacting moments to some slow touches); "Ouroboros" is focused on the creation of something melancholic and deep, even being aggressive to the point of breaking your bones (great guitars, indeed); "Amongst the Worms" and "Unworthy" and something in the middle, being harsh and brutal in some parts, and deep and melancholic on others (presenting very good vocal tunes). And "Thanatos" bears the melodic touches from the German Black Metal DNA presented in a personal form, using melodies and brutality in equal proportions.

GROZA is a promising name from German scene, and hope they can grow up and show their music to the world. "Unified in Void" is such a good album that deserves to be known by the greater number of Black Metal fans as it can.
