Deathstorm - Blood Beneath the Crypts album cover

Since the German Thrash Metal School was founded in the 80s, many bands tried to follow the steps of SODOM, DESTRUCTION and KREATOR. Of course, some names did a fine job in those days, and even now, some bands throughout the world are doing good music with their influence. But you must know to leave their shadows in some moment, because you can't be a clone, you must be yourself. Sorry, but one more tentative becomes a waste of time: the third album from Austrian quartet DEATHSTORM, called "Blood Beneath the Crypts", is one of those that I'll never hear again for the rest of my life.

It's just copying the forefathers of German Thrash Metal, and without putting something from their own. All the clichés used on the 80s are presented here, and let's be honest: no matter what some can say, it's just a great waste of time hearing such album. We don't need another German Thrash Metal trio, or their albums being done again and again. We need something fresh, not moldy like this. Ok, I know that they have some energy on their songs, but their music is totally a carbon copy. The sound quality is good. This is the best point of the album, because they didn't try to sound as the old times. Of course, it could be done in a better way, but it's not so bad in the way they got.

The great problem is when the music start, because the things I heard before can make me feel bored, and "Blood Beneath the Crypts" is a boring album for those who lived the 80s, because we already heard this form of music again and again. It lacks a self-identity! With patience, you'll find that some of their songs have potential. Yes, they have talent, as "Deathblow", the slow tempos of "Murder of a Faceless Victim", and the energy of guitars on "I Conquer" and "Verdunkeln". But to use the talent to make music is to run away from your musical influences, to avoid the words like "I don't want to make something new" (so why are you wasting your time recording and releasing albums?) or "I love the 80s music" (but you aren't on the 80s, and maybe you never were). Sorry, but you need to improve.
