Sometimes, when we deal with Doom Metal, we must have in mind that this particular Metal genre needs to be expanded. Yes, because many bands still lay on the old formula of bands as WITCHFINDER GENERAL, ST. VITUS, CANDLEMASS, TROUBLE, PENTAGRAM or even on the all father BLACK SABBATH. This is not the right way to be in the comfort zone, playing just more of the same. And besides North American quartet R.I.P. shows talent for what we can rear on "Street Reaper", they need some improvements before thinking on higher flights.

The band plays Doom Metal on the old way of the genre, before CANDLEMASS appeared and made a revolution. Nothing new at all, played with heart and soul, but they need to improve. They seem a lot with many old names of Doom Metal (as those I named above), and their greatest sin is on the vocals: the voices are strange, not fitting on what they play with this high tuned tune that lacks aggressiveness. Of course I'm not saying that everyone must sing as Messiah Marcolin, Robert Lowe or Eric Wagner, but not in this annoying way.

Maybe their worst problem resides on the production. This nasty and raw sound could be done in a better way, because bass guitar is too loud, almost shadowing the guitars. Speaking about rawness, the drums tunes are too dirty, but the producer committed a great sin by not telling that the vocalist must improve. His tune is really disgusting, and I'm not speaking this word in a good way. Good musical ideas permeates songs as "Unmarked Grave", "The Dark", "Shadows Fools", "Brimstone", "The Casket" (some Sabbathic riffs can be heard here) and "Die in Vain". But this raw and dirty sound quality, along with bad instrumental tunes and the annoying tunes of vocals made everything a disturbing and annoying experience, even for the die-hard fans of Doom Metal!

It's not an offense to say that a work is bad and the band must improve (talent for making good music they have, indeed), so, you must do it! For now, let's forget "Street Reaper", because it's a time loss.
