United we Stand
Flaw
Well, there's many ways to play in a Hard Rock/Melodic Rock format. But the bands must have one thing in mind always: Hard Rock is not only ballads. It's a nasty and energetic genre of Metal/Rock that can make Elvis' butt roll in his grave. Of course I know what AOR is about as well, and FLAW almost made me commit a gross mistake on "United We Stand". They are into a modern and nasty sound, fusing Metalcore with New Metal (again: I refuse to write "nu"), creating something heavy and aggressive, but with an abrasive insight. But on this EP, they play three ballads that can make an AOR/Hard Rock fan cry of satisfaction. This is the fact that deceived me in the beginning, but they are very good songs. I fear to say that they are better than their more aggressive musical side, where they aren't playing anything new at all (besides it's good).
The sound quality has some oscillations, because on the ballads of the EP, the sound flows clean and with everything in its due way, being very good. Of course some shifts occur due the live songs, because the sound quality is not as good as it could be. But on the aggressive song "My Style" the sonority is far from the ideal (because it's too raw, like we were listening to a rehearsal).
"I'll Carry You" and "Fall into This" are very good ballads, with a warm atmosphere and very good vocals (where the sonority is fine), and "Such is Life" is a modern Metal ballad (this one closing the EP and mixing tender parts with aggressive moments), and I'm afraid to say that they are their best moments. Yes, I have to say that because "My Style" is not the best song in the world (the prejudice becomes worse due the nasty sound quality), and their live versions for "Only the Strong" and "Payback" (besides being both good songs) are too raw, even for live recordings.
They are good, but this EP shows a band that must improve in many aspects.
