Are you ready for a ride? You better be. WO FAT will take you with their new release on a desert rock ride supreme. It's not easy to do that among the huge wave of stoner bands hitting us over the past few years. At some point it had gotten to be just another hipster trend. You were totally not cool if you didn't listen to this genre although you weren't aware of its origins and that it existed long before it got to be that "cool".

Warning: the songs are long! But don't let that scare you, you won't get bored. You'll just get lost between fuzz and wah wah. The clean vocals will not tire you, as opposed to bands that abuse growling. The ride starts slow with "Orphans of the Singe" but just wait for about two minutes for the fuzz to hit you. It's a mild slap in your face but that's what the Dallas trio wanted to when they decided on their production. They have chosen their tones very tastefully without exaggerating. Main achievement of this record is the feel good state it delivers to the listener. "The Snows of Banquo IV" and "The Overworlder" take us right in the middle of things and keep us there. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it sounds just too good to miss it and turn of the player. The frequencies are split beautifully, as we only have three guys playing, so nothing is overcrowded. "The Witching Chamber" is to be this albums single. A decision made because of the more "in your face" approach compared to the other songs. It has a catchy chorus and an easy going riff. Not at all sure this is the best song here. I guess it's the easiest one to digest for those not baptized yet in doom rock.

"The Singularity" picks up the pace. A smart move to refresh the listener. The verse riff takes you to SABBATH's "Sabotage" era. Guitar and bass tone work together like glued. Then comes the end. A 16 minute opus titled "The Oracle." I guess you could say you could have lunch during just one song. You won't be able to swallow one bite. This track puts you on the back of a camel in the middle of a desert. You can almost feel the sun burning your eyes and skin. The shaky rhythm just gives you de feel of riding. Is there any oasis in sight? Hold on your just four minutes into the song and anything might happen. And it does happen: a sandstorm hits you. Will you make it till the end of this record? I dare you to try!

The psychedelic groove that takes over many times during the songs gives you the feel of natural improvisation. That's just great in a musical world where most musician just go by patterns not willing to risk anything. Wo Fat manage to give you that 60's/70's feel with the clean production of our days.
