What Will Prevail
Thornbridge
When we are speaking about German Metal scene, we must have in mind that the scene on the country has a long history, along with some mythical names. And to be honest, what we usually call as Power Metal appeared on the country, due the strong influence from bands as ACCEPT, GRAVE DIGGER, HELLOWEEN, RUNNING WILD. They were the ones who helped to build what we all call as German Power Metal.
And we can say that the quartet THORNBRIDGE is a true heir from their music, because their first album, "What Will Prevail", is a fine collection of very good songs from the style.
Excellent melodies (some riffs are really sounding with a clear HELLOWEEN influence), good technical level (without being boring), great choirs, fine guitars, a heavy weight work on rhythmic session from bass guitar and drums, and very good vocals is what they offer to us. Ok, I know this style is not something new at all, but the way they play, their songs, all is very good and personal. Yes, they have a very strong personality, and their music is extremely spontaneous.
The sound quality of "What Will Prevail" is very good. The needed filth and aggressiveness is here in the due proportions, along with fine instrumental tunes, but the clarity level is high as well, so you can understand their musical work with no problem at all. It's all a fine work by the hands of Sebastian "Seeb" Levermann on recording, mixing, and mastering. And the cover art created by Juanjo Castellano is s fine piece, very good and shows clearly what the band's musical style is.
The strong and bold "Blow Up the Gates of Hell" with its great guitars and excellent choirs and backing vocals (but there are aggressive moments on it as well), the heavy weight created by bass guitar and drums on "The Dragon's Reborn" (filled with very good and hooking arrangements), the good and catching tempos on "Coachman's Curse" (another great moment from bass guitars and drums, along with excellent choirs), the charming guitars and choirs on "Eternal Life", the work from vocals and guitars on "Under the Ice" (a very good song, with climatic tempos) and the excellent riffs and solos on "Galley of Horror" can be pointed as their finest moments to a first listening. But soon you'll understand that "What Will Prevail" is a very good album.
