Red Robes
The Order of Israfel

Live from Gothenburg Sweden its....THE ORDER OF ISRAFEL! Who? Yeah, I asked myself the same question. Funny thing is when I talked to a lot of my metalhead buddies about this band they were all psyched! They say they couldn't wait for ''Red Robes'' and they really loved the band. So I had to check them out to see what all the fuss was about pretty much. This is their second full-length album and first since 2014. They are a Doom Metal band based in Gothenburg, Sweden. When you hear that hometown you always think about the Gothenburg sound of bands like IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY but this was not the case in this instance.
In the last 4-5 years you've had a resurgence (no...not Independence Day!) of Doom Metal (and Stoner Metal in fact). You had bands like UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS, ORCHID, KADAVAR and many others. They have added their own unique twist to the genre that was defined by BLACK SABBATH. THE ORDER OF ISRAFEL benefit from a solid production and that adds so much to the depth of their music. They might be the next big thing in the genre and they are heads above the rest of the bands. You can really feel the influences from bands like TROUBLE, ORANGE GOBLIN and ST. VITUS on a number of songs. Even though the songs are pretty long, they don't seem to be drawn out. They always get the attention of the listener throughout. Even though they don't have the best singer, the music makes all the difference. Tom Sutton is very good at what he does but he lacks some charisma and presence but he has a great range that makes up for it. My favorite song of the album was the opener actually. It grabs you and never gets you out of its sight! You want to listen to the rest of the album immediately and it's a great feeling for a reviewer like myself. I will definitely check out their first album and anything I can get my hands on because this is so good. If you love bands like THE POSSESSED, PENTAGRAM, ST. VITUS, you will love this, I promise!
