TELEPATHY identify as "Cinematic Sludge" metal. Hailing from Colchester, UK, "Burn Embrace" is the band's third full-length album, and contains seven tracks. It's purely instrumental music, with no vocals. "Eternal Silence" leads off the album. The sounds of a steady rain are quickly drowned out with big drum strikes and slow and heavy guitar accents. A note of dread hangs in the air. It picks up, with speedy guitar picks and that ominous feeling permeates the entire song. It goes from doomy to downright end-times. They work in some ambient moments as well. "Aonaran" is about half as long. It opens with momentous guitar and drum strikes. In this song, it's all about that powerful ambiance that comes from low and slow movement.

"Black Earth" opens with clean guitar notes and a solemn feeling. It's tense at first, until the guitar riff is released, reverberating on the low note to the point of hitting you square in the gut. They work in this nifty little melody that is repeated until the sound drops off to almost nothing for a spell, before returning with renewed vigor. "Pariah" opens softly before a domineering riff develops under some background atmosphere. It's a second guitar creating eerie tones. The combination of the two parts is what gives this song its energy.

"The Void in Aimless Flight" is a seven-minute song. Clean guitar notes are quickly replaced with heavy, distorted strikes. Some despondence comes into play around the half-way mark, but those big guitar hits are the most populous thing about the song. Towards the end, the clean guitars are back, as is noticeable bass guitar notes. "Sorrow Surrenders its Crown" has a light and airy opening sequence but the grey skies come in quickly. The guitar notes are held for emphasis...it really gets that Sludgy feeling across, like you are slowly drowning in quicksand. A solitary scream comes unexpectedly from the depths. "Burn Embrace" closes the album; a three-and-a-half-minute song. At first, clean guitars echo from the valley along with that scream again. It feels like the world is ending and the last person alive takes his last breaths of air. The guitar morphs to cello notes as the song ends.

Overall, I was very fond of the sound here. The band builds cinematic landscapes over a bed of thick, sludgy Doom, and I found the sound to be exactly as described above in the brief bio. They have carved out their own niche within the Metal community, and I believe it will appeal to a wide variety of Metal fans... Doom fans, Sludge fans, fans of instrumental music, and fans of depressive music in any way, shape, or form will definitely like this. I feel like they are one of Metal's best kept secrets, and hopefully this and every other review will gain them some more exposure, because they really have a special sound.
