Alpha
Such A Surge

Hmmm... It was my mistake, but let's swim into deep water. Nuclear Blast is an attractive label to my ears, since lots of Heavy/Power/Thrash/Death bands in its roaster are featured as parts of my music collection. Still, Alpha was not what I would say my taste; yet it may be yours, so let's try to focus on an objective review.
Such A Surge: My first surprise was evident, as they seem to be in business for more than a decade now. The two latest releases in premier mainstream labels - 2002's Jehn Zahre via Epic and 2003's Rotlicht through Sony - brought this German angry quintet into the ranks of their country's Blasters; As for Alpha: A simple, black, gorilla-portrait cover that gives no data on what's inside (the cause of my fault...), with 12 tunes sung in German (All of them? Can't recall right now). Hmmm...
In terms of music now, the spotlight of Such A Surge evokes a mix of Hardcore/Crossover and Nu-Metal. Furthermore, I also noticed Stoner Rock or (even) Country elements filtered - I must admit - very smartly throughout the band's aggressive sound, while it's obvious that the band is fond of acts like Linking Park or Rammstein. Add all the Core ingredients too it and I think you got the picture.
Phew... Can't come up with something better. I never liked that kind of stuff, and Such A Surge won't be my angel of truth. Still, with my petite knowledge I would recommend this release to fans of this specific sub-genre; the band is healthy and - thus - worth the try; leave aside the fact that many Crossover fans may already be aware of Such A Surge, so - in this case - I just keep on writing in vein right now...
