Can something be relaxing and energetic at the same? I think so; I think I've found the album that has this exact quality. It's weird, but I love it! You know how they say being crushed in a cement mixer is meant to be the most relaxing feel after the initial crunch? Yeah, think of this album of that cement mixer and you've been placed right into the center of it.
SSSHEENSSS, a relatively new band, have come forth with their debut album "Strapping Stallions" with a big "fuck you, we don't give it a shit" attitude and it seems like they are here to stay. With epic tracks such as "You And Your Daughters", "Concrete And Steel" and "Saigon", this band have worked incredibly hard to provide some high quality material with wonderful production quality. Even though it can be ridiculously heavy in some places, it's weird how I feel I can still sit down and just chill out to this record, and when they provide us with softer sections as well, you know you're in for a treat.
The vocals from Kiri range from a mid-tone, almost ARCTIC MONKEYS style, to a falsetto Matt Bellamy, to the roars of a lion. It's really incredible what he can do; I really think he could be a tremendous vocalist in the near future if he carries on. Accompanying him are the three guitarists, who provide some excellent riffs, calm sections and solos throughout the album. In fact, every member shows some quality musicianship, which I am pleased to see, pays off very well.
Not only is the album energetic, I can see their live performances being incredible! For sure, pick this one up and give it a listen, there is some fine work going on here!
