Shadow Cut
•
June 28, 2005
Shadow Cut was formed in the end of 2002 by Omnio and Repe F.W. Misanthrope. The main idea from the beginning has been to create variated Death/Black Metal with a touch of their own cold sound. The musical and lyrical presentation is mainly very aggressive and in their music intentionaly primitive and progressive elements go hand in hand. Shadow Cut recorded their debut promo in the beginning of 2004 at Helsinki's Jive- studio in 13 hours while bassist M. Harvilahti joined the band only a week before the recording.
In this album you can find 42 minutes of varied and powerful Death/Black Metal with very aggressive vocals. Shadow Cut's music also contains a strong organic and crushing groove, that's seldomly present in nowaday's almost synthetic and computer generated way of producing Metal music. These are the stories from the dark side of a human mind. The production is very tight and carefully performed. Shadow Cut prove with their debut album that they can deliver their extra heavy intentions through well played Emperor type Heavy Metal, empowered by a nice production and fuel for glory.
This is a quite impressive debut disc! The band is a trio and you must have definitely heard of some of its members. Many listeners will debate themselves whether this is a Death or a Black Metal band. I think that the majority of the weight goes to the Death side. There are many chaotic moments and the drumwork is awesome here!
There is a rot and roll attitude found in this album ranging from the last Carcass or Entombed albums! The songs will definitely sound fine live and Shadow Cut will definitely attract many people as a support or main act, for sure. Pictures Of Death also demonstrates tempos which range from mid speeds up to extremely fast blast beats.
All the music and lyrics came from Omnio. The album was recorded and mixed by Henri Sorvali at JIVE-Studio, Helsinki / Finland, November 2004 in 6 days. Furthermore it was produced by Henri Sorvali and Shadow Cut and mastered at Finnvox by Mika Jussila. Until their next step, here is my rating...
