Serpent Obscene - Chaos Reign Supreme album cover

Phew! This was a blast. To have the chance to listen to some old-school Thrash/Death Metal shit seems - in 2006 - more difficult than getting horny with your 90-year-old 'two teeth' neighborhood nanna! Serpent Obscene is what you definitely need to bang your head to the wall endlessly. Man, this band should kill on sight on stage...
Serpent Obscene breathe life (or death?) for nearly ten years now. Formed in Sweden in 1997, they released their first demo effort in that year's December. Behold The Beginning's 300 copies were sold really fast and many people started showing interest in this diabolic act. 1999's ''Massacre'' demo eventually 'drove' the band to ink deal with the cult (back then - is this label alive now?) Necropolis label for the release of the band's debut holocaust. Following the release of Seprent Obscene, founding member Jonas Eriksson exited in March of 2001 and Kaamos/ex-Grave man Christofer Barkensjo filled in as the band gave some gigs in Germany. He left shortly after the release of the sophomore Devastation (2003) album, released on the Black Lodge label now. A wonderful amalgam of Thrash/Death Metal that saw the band more uncompromising and aggressive than in their debut. Jonny Putrid (Revokation) filled in for the bass duties and - two years later - the third (and most crucial, in my opinion) album is now released. Chaos Reign Supreme is its name...
Few Swedish Metal bands can perform bad music, and Serpent Obscene are certainly not in this category. From the bursting intro of Jackal Incarnate to the barbaric obscurity of Dawn of Suffer and then to the nuclear holocaust of Necro Angel, this album is the one awaited from every old-school Thrash-meets-Death Metal fan. Savage production, mayhemic playing, warlust vocals from Erik Tormentor and a general 'evil' atmosphere throughout a total of  30+ minutes is the apparent reason why someone 'stuck' to the late 80s sound of Thrash/Death Metal should pay attention to this album.
Chaos Reign Supreme could be 'transcribed' as the effect of Kreator in Endless pain, Sepultura in Schizophrenia, Morbid Angel in Altars Of Madness and Sodom in Obsessed By Cruelty at a more 80s Swedish Death Metal 'mode'. In any way, the album finds the band in perfect mood and it is strongly suggested for lovers of the genre. Evil Ascends again!
