After hearing their brilliant single "Morphogenesis" last year, I have been hooked onto Swedish Progressive Melodic Death Metal outfit SCAR SYMMETRY ever since. Their latest instalment "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)" has only heightened my admiration for SCAR SYMMETRY.
These illusive metal heads have been around for a decade as they brought forward their first release "Symmetric In Design" in the year 2005. Over the past ten years they have gone on to release many more albums including "Pitch Black Progress" in 2006, "The Unseen Empire" in 2011 and my personal favourite "Holographic Universe" in 2008.
I was completely blown away by the first two tracks "The Shape Of Things To Come" and "Neohuman". AMARANTHE sprang to mind when I heard the use of Space like synthesisers and the vocal work, particularly the right balance between harsh and clean. I had the biggest grin as I knew from that beginning they were well underway.
The rest of the album encompassed many great qualities including excellent balances between the harsh and clean vocals, amazing guitar solos and the wonderful use of synthesisers. The personal highlights on the album for me included "Neohuman", "Cryonic Harvest", "The Spiral Timeshift" and "Neuromancers" as I believe these showcased their chosen genre of Metal perfectly whilst providing the listener with the strongest melodies.
This sci-fi adventure ended with a bang via the track "Technocalyptic Cybergeddon", an epic track that allows the mind to imagine a final battle at the end of a great film leading to the amazing climax. However this was only Phase I of this sci-fi quest; so with Phase II or even III looming I can see the words 'To be continued...' for now.
So from this glowing report I hope you have gathered that I enjoyed this album from the Swedish Melodic Death Metal outfit. Bring on Phase II.
