Death/Black Metal was born in the second half of the 80s. In those days, Brazilian forefathers from SARCÓFAGO were mixing influences from BATHORY, HELLHAMMER and VENOM with Hardcore influences, along with some Thrash/Black Metal from earlier works from SODOM, DESTRUCTION and SLAYER. They were the pioneers, followed by names as Canadian BLASPHEMY and Finnish BEHERIT. Of course this way enchants many Metal maniacs, but to play in such old form demands a lot from musician. But the German one man band SACRILEGIOUS RITE is far from what they need, because their first album, "Summoned From Beyond", is just a recollection of the clichés we heard uncountable times before.

They play in the same form of the godfathers from SARCÓFAGO, and we can feel that Hardcore/Punk influence clearly on their musical work. But the lack of personality is too great to be ignored, and the clichés are disturbing our ears during the entire album. I truly understand that E.I-M. has chosen to be in this way, but he needs to put his heart and soul into what is being played. Here, we can say that the album sounds like BLASPHEMY or SARCÓFAGO, but not as SACRILEGIOUS RITE. The production is a good point. Even with the Old School focus, it was done in a way that we can understand what the band is playing, even with that moldy and raw form from Old School Death/Black Metal. This is a point that many must learn with them.

The band has talent, as some songs as the brutal and fast "Sacrilegious Rite" (there are some very good tempo changes on it), the morbid and somber "Coronatus Rex Mortis (Morbid King of Devastation)", the good guitars on "Nocturnal Blood Consecration", the very good technical work from bass guitar and drums that is heard on "In Abscence of Light", and the raw and oppressive atmosphere created by "Strigoicia" are here to proof. But the lack of personality is tormenting, that feeling that we heard it before somewhere is too evident. Personally, I believe in the band. Yes, I think that SACRILEGIOUS RITE can become a monolith into this genre of Metal, and think that the mistake comes from the inexperience. I hope to hear their next album, but hoping that the band improves. E.I-M. has good musical ideas, so my hopes will live on.
