If you are new in the music industry and your first release is a Rock Opera in DVD format, either you are crazy, you have money to spend or you really believe in your work.
A CD with eight compositions from this Rock Opera Sabinas Rex fell into my hands, where I had the opportunity to have a first look. The background of the story of this ambitious effort is about a world where everyone lived in peace with each other: elves, demons fairies and witches. A place where mystics and prophets talked directly with the gods and a balance existed between all of them. That was until man built churches and appointed bishops to talk to Gods. The mystical creatures retreated in the Fray, a forest surrounded by a river. Here comes the hero of the story, a young girl Sabina that secretly talks to the gods and has the power of foresight. Here the story is dealing with her adventures in the Fray and how she accidentally joined the battle between Good and Evil.
In this promo CD I had the opportunity to listen to seven songs plus the intro of this venturesome release that has twenty songs! But probably those ones are the least Metal ones. The compositions have a soundtrack feeling, with ethereal themes, velar male and female vocals. The base of the music is Pop/Rock with some fragments of classical tunes and in some of them a 'dark wave' aesthetic. And yes you are right, I didn't write the word Metal at all since the only common thing with Metal in those eight songs is some electric guitars. But probably, there will be some more aggressive songs in the twelve remaining compositions.
I won't judge their whole work by listening less than half of the songs. But to tell you the truth, even though I did like some of them like Brotherhood and Dying Angel, some of the melodies reminded me of some RPG games and you can't say that the story is the most original one. But I would like to have a look in the final release. Let's just wait...
