Raptore - Rage N' Fever album cover

RAPTORE is a speed metal band that was formed in La Plata, Argentina in 2012. After 4 years, RAPTORE released their debut full length album "Rage N' Fever" in 2016. Now "Rage N' Fever" has been given a world-wide reissue in 2017. The album opens with a pick slide from the title track "Rage N' Fever." Chugging guitar riffs and high pitched raspy vocals set a very 80's sounding tone but with a much cleaner sounding production. The second song "Night on Fire" is very similar to the opening track, but the use of the minor key gives the song a completely different feel. The guitar solo also sounds more thought out on this one being more melodic and containing sustained bends as opposed to just trying to shred. The rest of the album is very similar, with most of the variation being different tempos and the songs being in different keys. This being said, there are a few exceptions. "The Flame" starts off incredibly slow with a clean guitar arpeggio. This had me intrigued until Cattoni's raspy vocals came in which really didn't seem to compliment the clean arpeggios very well at all.

The final track (with the exception of the bonus songs) "Back in the Oven" is mid-paced and meaty, opening with a melody as well as harmonizing some of the chugs throughout the song. Two bonus tracks are included at the end of the album. The first being a cover of VENOM'S "Witching Hour" and "Desperadoes" by CHARGER. Both covers seem to be done well and fit the overall tone of the album nicely, while adding a little bit of diversity to an album that can feel a little too repetitive. Overall, "Rage N' Fever" is an adequate thrash/speed metal album. The chugging rhythm guitar can make you want to pump your fist at times. The guitar solos can be well thought out and filled with adrenaline. The bass is definitely apparent and the drums do their job well. The vocals on the other hand could do with less falsetto. This is all wrapped up into a package that isn't too bad for a debut album.
