OMEGA VIBE is a new independent metalcore band from Germany. They were formed in 2015 and have recently released a new EP to follow up their first album 2016's "The Road of My Beliefs". With a good mix of screams, guttural, and clean vocals the "Risen" EP is a very enjoyable listen. The band's musicianship is on point, with some heavy beats mixed with beautiful melodies. The album has great sound quality and mixing.
"Ignite" the first track on the EP gives you a clear picture of what this band has going for it. With the first line "I am not afraid", the energy they have in their song is contagious. The vocalist effortlessly transitions between clean- vocals and screams, even throwing in some very heavy guttural wails. The instrumentals flow wonderfully around the vocals with a solid bass rhythm throughout the song.
The second song on the album "Remedy" doesn't let up from the first, coming right out of the gate with a harsh guitar riff melded beautifully with the drums. In this song the band again does what it did so well in the first song. The easy transitions between melodic to heavy hitting in vocals and instruments make this song one of the best on the short EP.
I would have to say "Frame" is the weakest song on the album. It isn't a bad song, but in comparison to the other songs on the EP it seems less dynamic. The drums feel more stagnant, and the energy doesn't have that same hard-hitting effect. Halfway through the song it does some really nice things musically, but unfortunately it is a short piece of music before it goes back to what the band was doing before. The vocals also don't have the same intensity, the screams seem like they are lacking conviction.
What the last song was lacking in intensity the finale song "Sorrow" makes up for it in tenfold. You can feel the songs namesake in the vocals of this track. The sorrow sometimes drips for the words as they are being screamed out. At one point the clean vocals are over laced with the harsher vocals, and the result is a very interesting mix. The guitar and drums even seem to have the intensity turned up a notch, all culminating to about the halfway point of the song when everything slows down for a little bit. Letting you truly enjoy a beautiful piece of music where the bass takes center stage to be appreciated. This is by far my favorite song on the album.
I will be very interested in seeing what this band has in store for it in the coming years. With an album like this they are set up to be the headliners of the metalcore genre down the road. The only downside I see with the EP is how short it is. They end with a bang with "Sorrow", but it leaves you wanting more from OMEGA VIBE. Luckily, they do have an older album to listen to, but I will be anxiously awaiting a full-length album in the future from them.
