Polish Black/Death Metal band, NEOLITH, brings with them all that is expected of this genre: intense drum contributions, heavy and grinding guitar work and sheer aggression from the vocalist. Although I feel that these guys throw in something else to make them a bit more unique.
There is no denying that NEOLITH has all the requirements of both Black Metal and Death Metal, yet they use short melodic undertones, performed by the talents of "Jurek "Ю" Głód". I found the subtle contributions of electronics is what made them a bit more original and seemed to fit strangely well in amongst the rest of the music. I couldn't help but think that it was these efforts that give their sound a much more modern edge. The vocals certainly seemed more Death Metal style, but as we all know, genres of Metal can cross over or merge so easily.
Fourth track, "E.A. Firebringer" had some seriously impressive elements from the cleverly embedded electronic work, to the varying drumming. However, my favourite track has to be "Elil" had some really good breaks and build ups held itself up as the track with a bit more diversity. The sheer energy of the riffing and drums, NEOLITH clearly know their way around their instruments and don't hold back when it comes to power. I really liked how they did not seem to rush into the music, for example "Inferludium" stands as a short break from the intensity of the rest of the tracks then instantly morphs into following track "One is the Truth and the Truth is One" really well. In this track, vocal talents of Krzysiek "Kriss" Dybaś alter from the more shrill and sharp Black Metal to that deep and growling Death Metal sound.
Overall, NEOLITH were a pretty good listen, as their involvement of Industrial style electronics gave them that varied sound and dragged them out of the nailed down genres.<
