Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura album cover

Neal Morse is a famous guitarist, mostly known about his personal work and projects plus the cooperation with other mega stars for forming bands and projects mostly dealing with progressive rock and other elements of this kind. Apart from all these he also has a keen interest in Christian science and so-on-so in the past he has dealt with such subjects in his whole career. As a natural successor of this story here you get  Sola Scriptura .
Well this is a really strange record - that's for sure! Consisting only of 4 songs - which are subsequently divided into more segments, in order to make the whole CD flow like a history or something, Sola Scriptura (which means by scripture alone in the Latin language) is a progressive rock album by Neal Morse, which is  based on the history life of the famous German theologist Martin Luther.
The band for this release consists of Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER)  on percussion, Randy George on the bass guitar and Paul Gilbert (RACER X and MR. BIG) on guitar for several tracks. Just by judging on the aforementioned names you get the whole idea what this is all about.
Perhaps, in order to get the overall feeling about what is going on here, you should better break down the whole album into smaller fragments in order to get a better idea out of it. I am warning you that this is not a typical album to find out what it is about! It is mostly a record that you focus really deep in it and then you start to get enjoyment out of it. Here you have elements of progressive, Jazz even Heavy Metal sporadically, experimental atmosphere and diverse approach almost in every note.
The conceptual nature of it makes it more applicable to QUEENSRYCHE-type fans rather than DEICIDE. To tell you the truth I do not dig so much in that stuff - even though I respect Neal's work and contribution to art and music as well as his famous company! I think I will stick to RUNNING WILD stuff and sail on my Jolly Roger! There is no real need to try to get a highlight out of this album, since you should better focus on it as a whole entity and not as sole songs. The rating, of course, is yours...
