The Fatal Feast
Municipal Waste
Since I have been introduced to the older Crossover / Thrash bands like S.O.D., M.O.D. and D.R.I., I stopped taking them and others of their kind seriously. Not that there was anything serious beforehand. Even so, may it be too stupid, humorous, cynical or plain fun, it is still Thrash with all of its might. Well probably not all the might due to the natures of Hardcore and Punk that sunk their teeth in it. Either way, listening to this wild mixture can be quite fun. MUNICIPAL WASTE, along with other new bands of Crossover like the Irish GAMA BOMB among others, has been flaming with notorious jokes about the downfall of man. It is hard not to be captured or swayed by their chaotic afflictions.
Parting ways with Earache Records only to find Nuclear Blast Records around the dark corner, MUNICIPAL WASTE releases their fifth bombnation, "The Fatal Feast" consisting of sixteen tracks of raw energetic Thrash with a Punkish feels. "The Fatal Feast", similar to the band's past creations, is an overwhelming flood of riffs following the fast paced rhythms that won't ever seem to take a short break. That main attribute made MUNICIPAL WASTE's music to become rather easy but on the same time rough with its attitude. The same went on once again on this album. It went passed by me so fast I didn't even flinch. In that department MUNICIPAL WASTE succeeded where others tried and failed miserably. Nonetheless, the ongoing flow of the songs didn't make me always grin with joy as some of those were bitter sweet.
While listening, "The Fatal Feast" made me understand that this is the right scorched ground to be as loosen as possible and just spill your guts out with as many comments that you have about anything real or wacky that your mind can think of. I agree about being loosen and such but in the end its music. MUNICIPAL WASTE, as like others like them, unleash track after track with what I perceive as their way to not look back and smell the leftovers. I know that this is what going on in Punk and Hardcore but I believe that in Metal it's more than that. There is a large sum of the tracks that is practically repeating itself, it's like listening to a track and then when following the next, it's the same thing altogether. Talk about firing from all cylinders.
On the other hand I knew that there is no way that I won't like anything around here. Suckers for riffs will eat songs here for breakfast. I favored crushing stuff like the drunken "Covered In Sick / The Barfer", which made me think twice about trying to thrash up an establishment, "New Dead Masters", the true show of Thrash Metal in the entire album, "The Fatal Feast", "Death Tax" and "Authority Complex" that showed me how psychotically deranged we can become with our daily endeavors. I both found and lost myself on this album, most of the time it was like being on speed pills and the rest began lowering me down. I am glad I was more on the up side.
