20 years has done nothing to hinder the Thrash moguls "Motive," delivering unto the world a new full length album entitled "Fight the World." Coming from Phoenix, Arizona they stepped into a niche left behind by acts such as Flotsam and Jetsam and Sacred Reich.

The album opens up with the song "Thrash Priest" a polemically and religiously charged head-banging song strewn between quick and slow dynamics which it uses to build tension between the chorus and verses. The song-along with the album as a whole-has a relaxed Groove Metal type of feel to it similar to Pantera although that in itself is not a direct comparison as "Motive" does exceptionally well in carving out their own niche of music focusing not just on more staccato and refrained chords and notes but also insanely quick passages wherein a better analogue would be a comparison to Speed Metal such as in songs like "One With the Water," "An Act of God," and "Digital Slave." The last of which plays with dynamics more than any other song on the record starting upbeat and maintaining that speed threshold during the verses before slipping into double time for the chorus and slowing down to a march for the break.

The album is beautifully mixed containing an exceptional balance of both the instruments and vocals-which in itself is difficult due to the grittiness the voices-wherein no instrument supersedes one another providing an amazing balance for which few bands are able to achieve, let alone one that has so many contrasting frequencies as "Motive."  Take the song "Boycott Your Boycott" which features the guitar as the most pronounced instrument on the song yet despite its volume the other instruments stand out in their own respective attributes and still manage to mesh-but not meld-together creating a defining song while each instrument remains discrete and defined.

The guitar is crunchy, abrasive, and caustic standing out from rest of the instruments by its sheer intensity; the drums are solid and tight with insane lengths of double bass without relent and transitions between faster and slower intricacies without so much as a stutter; the bass manages itself as loud and distorted both without overpowering the mix or becoming lost in it as is usually what occurs when distortion is added to bass; and while the vocals are contained within a limited range the delivery of intensity is a unique attribute which not only colors in each passage with a different tone but also helps to define the band as unique.

"Motive" is a unique blend of different genres and ideals mostly stemming from Thrash Metal which is where they're rooted-they contain about themselves an esoteric musical style albeit inviting and head-banging, a must listen to for anyone with any penchant or inclination towards Thrash Metal.
