There are times when minimalistic forms of music appear in Metal, and mixing elements seems to be the future of the style. The gates of creativity were opened, and will never be closed if only one band holds the needed courage to go against the models and try something different. We can say for sure that one of the names that could be seen as a potential name for a place on the group of the courageous bands is from the Swiss quintet MAKE ME A DONUT. Yes, they are really creative, as their new work, "Bright Side", can show.

Imagine a band that can mix Progressive Metal, Djent Metal and a great range of musical influences into a consensual form of music. It's truly different from what we are used to hear on these days we are living now. It's a heavy and abrasive form of music (hear their guitar riffs and you'll understand what I mean), but elegant and have Progressive ethereal moments as well, and the brutal nasty grunts guide their vocals (but some clean tender voices appear as well). Their technical work is full of broken tempos and different musical arrangements. It's chaotic, bitter and aggressive, but it's excellent. "Bright Side" was recorded on Conatus Studio, having Vladimir Cochet recording, mixing and mastering the album. Obviously, he and the quintet looked for a quality that could be clean and keep their musical aggressiveness. They got it, because their music is truly brutal and oppressive, with modern bitter tunes, but it's truly clean. The artwork was done by Effy, and it's good, fitting perfectly on what they are doing.

The technique near Jazz Rock presented by the guitars on "Nominatus Padre" (a complex song, where grunts and clean voices are creating a good atmosphere), the complex and broken tempos created by bass guitar and drums on "Skyline" (fine melodies and intricate guitars are presented again), the Prog Metal song filled with bitter melodies called "Valar Morghulis" (it seems that these guys love "Game of Thrones" TV series), the excellent "II Knowledge" with its hooking complex technique from guitars, "III Imagination" (a Progressive Rock instrumental, filled with an introspective atmosphere), and the heavy complexity of "Bright Side" (with hooking guitars, and featuring Courtney LaPlante as special guest). They are really good, and maybe "Bright Side" can become a cornerstone for a new time that is already coming.
