Lapse Of Irony - Between Dreams And Dread album cover

Between Dreams & Dread... is living proof that it doesn't take tons of make up or high heels to make Atmospheric Metal. This U.S. act represents a turn to more intellectual fields regarding Atmospheric Metal. This mini CD consists of five excellent compositions that will satisfy the fans of the genre.
In the fall of 2002, long-time friends and guitarists Justin and Chip decided to form a female-fronted Atmospheric Rock band. Bethany responded to a local Internet want ad in December and tried out, immediately impressing the two. Matt was discovered in spring of 2003 and the group began writing music as a four-piece. Justin recorded and produced the band's debut three-song Demo in the fall of 2003. Bob Bryant (ex-Summer Dying) filled the bass player gap and now the band was a fully functioning five-piece. In summer of 2004, Justin decided to step down as guitarist. Once again, another long search ensued and Angelino (ex-Estun-Bah) joined the group. The band began writing new material and continued playing local shows. Bob stepped down as bassist in winter of 2004-05 and Rich (ex-Imperiled Earth) picked up where he left off. Deciding to pursue a full-time keyboard player, Winter was recruited in spring of 2005.
Driven by the warm and enchanting voice of Bethany Hodges, the silent force created by the guitar work of Justin Gersey and Chip Franz and the often turn to modern Rock vibes caused by the rhythm section of the act Lapse Of Irony create a very interesting, not to say explosive since it comes in contradiction with the style of music, sonic outcome.
Though low tuned most of the time, I can't say that I felt bored or stagnant at any certain point. Might bring in mind the How To Measure A Planet? period of The Gathering. Thumbs up for the great, warm production that really gives a helping hand to the compositions. Overall this is a great piece of work. I am eager to listen a full-length release by this band.
