Restart Your Mind
Laments Of Silence
The Spanish group LAMENTS OF SILENCE landed their debut album, "Restart Your Mind" as another modern Metal setting. Released under My Kingdom Music, this album presents a new set of tunes along with some changes in their approach. As their EP release was rather impressive, their new album is like a leeway to the more mainstream of Extreme Metal or maybe not so extreme, more Metalcore like Metal.
As the album holds strong vibes of ambient feels, there is no progress beyond that. The material will not change a bit even if it was produced by top of the line producers, as Jonas Kjellgren of SONIC SYNDICATE.LAMENTS OF SILENCE maybe massive and tough, yet, their music seem to lack the soul to keep one at their feet. Although their vocalist, Edu, is a highly talented as he possess a fine growl line and depthy lower tone clean vocals, this is not enough. The emotions and heart of the songs may come from him, but aside from the keys, nothing is channeled from the other instruments.
The music can be categorized as a mixture of Gothic anthems with modernized Death Metal / Metalcore, semi-melodic type. Many know how this type works and the band's way of writing, songs have not changed much between songs. The only track that maybe a bit different is the opener, "Restart Your Mind", which is solely energetic, yet, repetitive, with no clean vocal line. Unfortunately, you will get the idea easily after listening to the other tracks. No solos (where the hell are those?), almost non-existent melodies and the same repetitive gimmick over and over, growls on the verses and clean on the choruses.
What can be considered a silver lining is the band's vocalist, keyboard master and their selection of producers, a factor that is outside of the band's capabilities to write songs. Other than that, the band should take notice of their melodies and while doing it to change their approach on the tracks. Almost every song is similar to the other and its hard to make something memorable out of the tracks. Production is not everything, heaviness is cool and all, yet, the material comes first, it has to be more interesting and compelling for the listener.
LAMENTS OF SILENCE should do a small restart and go back their demo and EP days and make something worthwhile with their talents. "Restart Your Mind" is not that mediocre, yet is almost less than a solid release.
