Kotipelto - Serenity album cover

Deep inside you always knew this will happen. From the moment lame bands such HELLOWEEN (and their equally hilarious spawn GAMMA RAY) started hitting the charts and clones appeared it was more then obvious that what once called European power metal eventually would turn out to become European POP metal.
Do you think it's a coincidence bands like THUNDERSTONE occupy the second place for their country in the gay-er of them all Eurovision song contest? Do you think it's a coincidence that most keyboard lines (a false metal instrument anyway you look at it) in TIMO's latest attempt (same goes for all his attempts) sound like 80's A.O.R. rip-offs? No sir, it was inevitable this to happen. Bands claiming to play metal lately sound lighter that bands claiming of playing rock (NICKELBACK is a fine example - these guys have heavier guitars than most European power metal acts).

Serenity is more predictable than a Hollywood action movie (good guy kills lots of bad guys, saves the girl and of course copulates with her). In fact this is more boring than the late STRATOVARIUS disaster. So sterile and clean you can eat food upon it (here's a fine use for this album). Accidentally the hit of the album Sleep Well runs in the same tempo as TIMO'S previous hit Reasons. Sleep is something most people will experience if they dare to listen this album having in mind listening something heavy.

So if you are into AOR / pop metal this one is for you. If you consider yourself a metal maniac and at the same time you find this metal enough than you definitely must reconsider your point of view regarding metal music (probably change your name to a more feminine one as well).
