Up & Away

This is an interesting US band. Dunno if they can be anyone's cup of tea, but they surely surpass any usual-awaited CD release. KID BLUDO deals with lots of Rock influences - I do not however agree with the 'melodic Hard Rock' label as stated in their Press sheet - and shows a unique ability in composing matchless songs. If you can avoid the childish cover artwork, then think if you're that open-minded in music and give Up & Away a try.
Two singers present a narrative/poetic/cinematic point of view in KID BLUDO's music. Chuck Woodard is a mix of Blaze Bayley (ex-WOLFSBANE/IRON MAIDEN), Graham Bonnet (ALCATRAZZ, RAINBOW) and 'furious' Lou Reed. Jennifer Herbs, on the other hand, seems keen on the 'chanting' harmonies in singing, bringing to mind some of THE BEATLES or (early) HEART/JOURNEY/Jennifer Rush singing process. A weird combo, huh? As for the band's music: bring on some huge cauldron and throw some VAN HALEN, RUSH, BOSTON, DOKKEN, HUMBLE PIE and (late) QUEENSRYCHE in. then mix it all over and drink it while watching to some 9/11-related documentary. That's what I came with, at least.
The production could be much clear and 'metal', while there's lack of musicianship in - limited - parts. Thankfully, the songs penned are really interesting and sound like on other band's ones. A strong 'plus' is also the fact that KID BLUDO loves promoting their band; you can check out their CD artwork plus their well-done website. Even if Up & Away will have limited chance to reach the likes of hardrockers/metalheads, it is an appropriate album if you wish to listen to something in more 'wide' area.
