Justify Rebellion - Unleashing The Beast album cover

As the new year's roots begin to take hold, new music also begins to make its mark on the wonderful and ever-changing world of Metal. Enter JUSTIFY REBELLION, whose debut full-length "Unleashing The Beast" comes crashing down to Earth with the force of a world-shattering asteroid, reshaping anything and everything in its path. While definitely able to claim a sound of their own, JUSTIFY REBELLION should come as a welcome treat for fans of WHITE ZOMBIE, METALLICA, and many of the newer offerings from bands in the likes of TESTAMENT and SLAYER.

This studio offering opens with an instrumental track, which is a somewhat unusual concept, to be sure; but here, it works. The track, "Animal", is a perfect introduction to the band's style and sound. It exhibits deep and groovy sections, along with some nice breakdowns that highlight the very well executed riffs that define JUSTIFY REBELLION's signature sound. This sets the stage for a nice transition to the first track with vocals, "The Bloodcurdling Wail". While this song shines light on the band's basic abilities, it also does a fine job of laying low and allowing the real fireworks in the middle of the album to really pop.

Among the good handful of standout tracks on the record, "Relentless War", the third track, is absolutely killer. Its perfectly paced grooviness found in its driving rhythm is mixed to perfection with subtle elements of mid-80s Thrash stylings, and has just the right amount of funkiness in its thunderous bass line. The vocals are executed with passion and belief as they relates to the lyrics' subject matter. Yet they never overpower the music that accompanies them, rather, they are a part of the music; a feat rarely achieved by a lead vocalist in nearly every genre of music the world over.

"Get Away" is another track with a superbly heavy low end that just rips. The intensity contained within this song is palpable as it steamrolls through the listener's brain, crushing all obstacles in its path as it displays its Metal prowess. With its mix of slower intros and interludes, and fast-paced bridges that pummel their way toward fiery choruses, "Unleashing The Beast" has the power to satisfy even the most discriminating metalhead's expectations when it comes to what constitutes a great Metal album. In short, this band is one to watch in the years to come.

As "Unleashing The Beast" reaches its finale, the heavy roller "The Core" crawls into oblivion in the record's wake with its menacing whispers and intertwined tortured yells. I am left with that feeling one gets after consuming their favourite meal. I am full. I am whole. I am left wanting more - even though what I have been given was most obviously more than substantial. All I can say is that I wish there were more albums like this in existence today, and with any hope, we can expect to hear much more from this amazing band called JUSTIFY REBELLION.
