The debut album by this diverse Greek band, INSIDEAD, made me think some more on what is the most important part in a Metal song. As I came to discover from the band's new material on "Chaos Elecdead", via the band's new German label of Massacre Records, these guys have been taking their chorus sections quite seriously. Probably not every Metal fan takes choruses as his / her favorite section because there is much to admire within Metal songs. From my end, choruses are very important and serve as peak moments; however, a chorus is not the only ingredient that makes a song to sound good. A song has more to it.

Right before jumping into what I saw in this album, I will give a heads up on how I musically recognized this band. INSIDEAD, presented as a Thrash Metal band, in general has something relatively interesting going on. The band's type of Metal is merely based on the subgenre's modern side. Along with modern / Nu Metal elements, there are some implementations of Hardcore to add some more flavor. So generally you are looking at a diverse band that didn't have any purpose to sound like every other Thrash band out there. On several occasions, INSIDEAD reminded of a nice mix between later SEPULTURA, SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY & METALLICA along with numerous of others from the modern American Metal scene.

Going back to the "Chaos Elecdead" album, it has some nice stuff to offer both to modern and old school fans. Even if it didn't quite feel Thrash all the way, there were more than a few moments of that solid stuff, especially when it came down to riff based tracks. Along with fine twists of well connected catchy choruses, tracks as "Have No Fear", "Blood 4 Blood" and the closing "Second Face" alerted my attention and showed the band's diversity that worked nicely for them, in particular when the music crossed between old and new school. Something else that impressed me was the solos, when those were fired. However, there were the turn offs.

Earlier on when I mentioned whether if the choruses are the most important thing or not, it counted for something on this album. The way I see it, on most of the tracks on "Chaos Elecdead" there wasn't that of a correlation between the choruses, which were catchy with a cool modern coil, and the rest of the music. Moreover, there were other tracks that were in a way boring. "Chaos Elecdead", "Away From Me" and "In My World" were virtually disappointed.

INSIDEAD, from the tracks that I found compelling, seems like a band that can compose some heavy stuff and with a good taste, mainly when taking a peak on their easy to handle choruses. Their material might seem constructive, and it shows here and there, however, they should try to do something about making the connection between the peak moments of their great choruses and their riffages, passages and the rest.  Diversity is fine and all, yet, if there is an aim on a catchy type of song, complex or not, it should turn a red light.
