INFRAKTOR hails from Aveiro, Portugal. Formed in 2013 , it took 5 years to Hugo Silva and Carlos Almeida to find the proper musician matches to build up whats required to finally handing up this riffin' war machine. The album also features REVOLUTION WITHIN 's Rui "Raça" Alves in the song "Ferocious Intent".Finally the entire band was formed from members of PITCHBLACK, GATES OF HELL, ECHIDNA or REVOLUTION WITHIN.The artwork made by German Hauke Vagt, reminds me a little of IRON MAIDEN's "Eddie" and I like it. Well done job...we know we are in a thrashing assault territory."Exhaust" was produced by Miguel Tereso at Ultrasound Studios and Demigod Recordings. They are proud new members of the Rasthilo Records (Portugal) team. The first track, "Blood of the weak," is KREATOR-esque and lets out the wolves on us. Drums are banging from hell so madly that insanity is up the corner. All is set up in place, speeding it up more and more till track two
"Son of a butcher" reminds me of DESTRUCTION a lot, not quite an original title. The song is quite good with Melodic Death influences. It's not that much full speed ahead, but still quite nice. Here we have a cool tremolo frenzy to keep us headbanging along. Next up is the title track, "EXHAUST". This one is a little predictable. They intended I guess to put a song that's easier for everyone. Not that the song is bad, it's a really nice one, but it doesn't represent well the entire soul of the album. "Speech of Deceit" leads us to known territories with a glimpse of cool time signatures here and there. There is no revolutionary formula here but they blend a mix of Thrash and Death elements in their own way that it gets my attention. Like meeting an old friend, who's the same guy but has a few new tricks in his pockets to get your attention when its necessary.
"Inevitability of Reason" put me in a flashback mode a little, sounding like like late 90's at times. A little wah-wah is present too and cool arpeggios are invited to the party. I need a beer. "Unleash the Pigs" is quite similar to the last track using a tornado of riffs, familiar thrash with groovy breaks. "Ferocious Intent" is the last offering in this altar of madness and starts up with some military drumming, we walk on known ground here thereafter. I feel a DEW SCENTED influence. It made me want to listen to all of their albums this week, so well done. Finally the "Outro" gives us some time to rest a while with arpeggio-driven riffs acting as a nice duality against the rest of the album that's so mad driven and intense. Here we got a great blend of old school Thrash with today's sounding. Pretty intense from start to finish, this album's got cutting edge riffs and apocalyptic drums. It's a journey through rage, anger, desolation, display of powerful blasts in your face Thrash Metal that's very effective, not that much innovative, but consistent, and there's a lot of meat on the bone.Id like to hear more solos though.
The lack of solos here and there in my opinion makes this recording little homogeneous even if its well produced, well played, and well written. There are raging vocals, and strong musicianship. I especially liked the Death Metal inspiration used correctly in most of the songs. We have a catchy Thrash/Death metal sound, crushing rhythms, fast-paced and aggressive riffs and ferocious vocals. I can feel great dedication in this album. "Exhaust" is only their first stab at modern life. For a debut album, this is quite a solid performance and I think the future will be promising for INFRAKTOR!!!
