Immanent - Human Reflection album cover

French Progressive Metal band IMMANENT is back with another release.

First impressions are that the guitar work is amazing, the riffs are infectious, well played and quite frankly, almost perfect. But then you zone out and listen to everything else going on in the album. The vocals come in and they are the worst thing I've heard since I bathed my aquaphobic cat. We all have that one friend that insists on singing while absolutely wasted, right? Well this is what happens when said drunken friend decides to make an album. There is a serious lack of life and passion in the majority of the vocals and they sound dull, out of tune and abysmal; our drunken friend could do better if I'm honest!

As this album draws on we realise how bad the production on this album really is. At times the vocals are far louder than the instruments, there also seems to be no editing whatsoever done to the vocals. The guitar tone also leaves a lot to be desired, it reminds you of when someone first picks up a guitar and they find the heaviest pre-set tone and keep with it; it doesn't emanate experience. There is also quite a large presence of piano throughout the album which seems to be the only feature of this album done right (albeit not perfectly!)

"Searching For Harmony Part 1" isn't as bad as the rest, so if you feel the need to check out this album, go straight for this one and then ease yourself into the aural assault that comes with the rest of the album.

On the surface, the vocals seem to be the only thing letting this album down. But when you dig deeper you realise that barely anything works with this album. It feels like no thought or heart went into this album. I had to stop this album halfway through to listen to something else to clean my ears. This album is truly hopeless.<
