Hopesfall - A Types album cover

According to the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, the definition of a Type A Personality is: 'A temperament marked by excessive competitiveness and ambition, an obsession with accomplishing tasks quickly, little time for self-reflection, and a strong need to control situations'. (Trustkill website). I couldn't have found a better start for this review...
I'm completely unaware of the band's deeds, but it seems that their previous album, The Satellite Years (2002) must have made a small buzz (at least) in the States and Britain (how strange...). Furthermore, touring with acts like The Ataris, Coheed & Cambria, Killswitch Engage, Eighteen Visions and The Juliana Theory helped the band spread its name to a wider range of fans.
A Types features multi-dimensional vocals by Jay Forrest, with screams turning to melodic/depressive lines, while the general music formula stands upon a tendency for plain, new Rock/Hard Rock tunes. Thus, a metallic feeling is not that apparent - even if noticed at times - leaving space for modern melody and emotional solo work.
The band's plus - in my humble opinion - is the great chorus hooks, radio friendly but 100% in respect. In addition, an interesting, vivid and modern production is appropriate for Hopesfall's needs, even if I would consider A Types to be more persuasive if it had a slightly heavier mix. A beautiful cover artwork - contrasting blackness with vivid red - smoothly supports the album's inner tracklisting, a set of songs dealing (lyrically) with personal, emotional stuff.
I wish I had better knowledge over this kind of music (I just don't want to, to be honest). Thus, I cannot come up with any band similarities, except maybe by mentioning - as a general idea - the likes of ... er...hmmm... phewww.... Dunno...
