La Fosa Comun
Hideous Rebirth
By the way things are going (in my personal vision), it seems that traditional forms of Death Metal are back from the 90s' graves. Of course you can play it today, but always having in mind that you must bring something of your own. We can say that HIDEOUS BIRTH is a good band, but needs some improvements, for "La Fosa Comun" shows it clearly.
In their case, we have that same brutal way that bands as SUFFOCATION played on the past, but as technical intricate as them. They are really into the thing, playing sometimes fast, other times a bit more slow, but always aggressive. The problem rests on their musical insight: they aren't bad, but need to evolve into something musically personal. It reminds a lot many bands that we already heard before. No, it's not bad (it's the opposite), but they could be better. Mixed and mastered by Justin Loomis, the sound quality of the album is a perfect blend of the crude and brutal sound of Death Metal, but with the insight that they must be understood. It is what you'll get on the sonority of "La Fosa Comun", so be prepared to have your brain slashed to pieces!
Having as guest the guitarist Frank Zelada (former EUPHORIC DEFILEMENT, OSSIFICATION, SIDERATE member), the album has some good moments, as you can hear on the oppressive tempo changes of "Orgy of Souls" and "Obscured in Blood" (very good work from bass guitar and drums), the slashing guitar riffs on "Ab Insidiis Diaboli", the fast massacre heard on many moments on "Desecration Seance" and on "Flames of Passage", and on the brutal work heard on "La Fosa Comun". The album is not bad, it's good, but the clear idea that we have is that they're not using everything that they can in their songs. So, I wish that HIDEOUS REBIRTH can improve, but for now, "La Fosa Comun" is a good album.
