Generous Maria - III album cover

Sweden`s GENEROUS MARIA may be an unknown name for most of you, but those who enjoy the sounds of Hard Rock should check this band out. GENEROUS MARIA was formed in 1998, and released their first EP in 2001. It was a split record on the Spanish label Alone Records. After signing up with Lunasound, they release their first full length album "Command Of The New Rock" in 2002. Lunasound folded and the album was re-released by Buzzville Records, along with their second album "Electricism" in 2006. After seven years long brake they are back with new album, symbolically titled "III" released through Transubstans Records.

It seems that these days everyone is in the mood of recycling music rather than creating something new. Not that I mind. Some of the world best music was created in the period from 60s till the 80s, and it seems like that is the musical period to get some inspiration from. It`s just that these days there are so many bands doing it, and it feels like that the 80`s are back, just without big hear-dues, ridiculous clothes and glitter.

With their third full length release "III" GENEROUS MARIA brings back the best sounds from the past. This is one of those déjà vu albums, where everything sounds like you heard it all before. It brings the mixture of 60s Rock and 70s Hard Rock with Glam Metal influences straight from the 80s. "III" is an upbeat, feel good album with plenty guitar riffs and catchy melodies. Goran Florstrom`s voice fits perfectly to this Hard Rock party anthems.

Overall it`s not a bad album. GENEROUS MARIA managed to get the sound on this release somewhere between garage band and professional recording, which is interesting. Rest, not so much. Like I said, we heard it all before, and I`m quite sure we`ll hear it again soon.
