Melodic Death is a genre that is going strong since it's debut in the 90's. Finish band FORTE RUIN follows in the footsteps of the bigger Melo-Death bands and succeed in adding elements of their own. They are however more progressive than most of their peers and also trying new things, which I commend. Staying original is hard nowadays, but this EP shows us a glimpse of what they are capable of...!
"Alienated Humanity" starts off as a typical (yet very decent) Melodic Death Metal, but the chorus sections switch from growls to clean vocals, something I didn't expect at first, but it works quite well I'd say. Some pleasing piano is featured here, rather than a keyboard sound. The guitar solo is interesting and has a lot of soul to it. "45 Days" has a quite sinister intro with effective use of the keyboard; an evil vibe overall, even though there are clean vocals thrown in. Quite melodic and almost jazzy in some parts, with some definitive progressive elements... there is no mistaken here! "Enter the Masquerade" is a more mellow song; an epic sounding piece with strong melodic lead guitar, group choruses and dreamy piano/keyboard parts. Instrumentally, this one is like a cross between DETHKLOK , OMNIUM GATHERUM and some neo classical stuff. The vocals once again alternate between growls and clean; I normally don't like this approach, but both styles are very well done and thus it succeeds. There is that "vampire vibe" during the song, especially when the clean vocals kicks in.
This release shows us a lot of promises for the future of FORTE RUIN; if you are a fan of European Melodic Death Metal in general, you might want to follow these guys.
