German Melodic Black Metal Band FERNDAL formed in 2016. So far the band has managed to release two albums; "Ferndal," released in 2017, and their newest work, "Singularitaen," which came out earlier this year.

 I had a pretty good feeling about the album after researching the band a bit so I was excited about the doing the review before I'd listened to any of it. I was not disappointed, either. The very first track, "Intro," gave a very strong hint of what to expect from the release and its' contents. The track is bleak, dark and mournful as it reveals its' stark beauty. Gothic and gorgeous with elements of longing and loss just beneath the surface. The second track, "Weltenbraende," has an entirely different character. It is epic Black Metal with the perfect touch of Melodic Metal overtones which fans of both genres will respond to. It's one of those songs that are perfect when you're in the mood to be alone with your inner sadness for a little while.

 The quality continues with the tracks, "Bringer der Leere," and "Sternenlicht'. Both songs are also great examples of how powerful and emotional Melodic Black Metal can be. I am sure I won't be the only one who listens to each of them a few times in a row once other fans discover them as well. "Klauvierquintett in E-Moll (Mother North)," is also beautiful. However, since it is a Classical track rather than being metal it could alienate a few people. I found it to be excellent and applaud the band for taking a risk by including it on the album. The Metal returns with "Die Verlorenen"; be sure to take a listen to the guitar solos, you won't regret it!

 Of the three remaining tracks, I had a problem with just one; track seven, "Siebter Gesang". It had a more Industrial sound to it with a couple of voice-overs which were annoying when compared to the album's other tracks. Otherwise, I was very pleased with everything I heard and would happily recommend this exceptional album to anyone who loves Melodic Black Metal as much as I do. I hope this band will continue to be around for many more years to come. They are versatile musicians who make music that is a joy to listen to, even if the nature of it is dark and sad. Sometimes that's exactly what you need to make your day better.
