Armageddon

EQUILIBRIUM has been around for a while, and by now we are accustomed to getting the best out of their albums. Well, their newborn "Armageddon" is no different. The album, released earlier this month, has already reached the 5th spot on the German charts; certainly a worthy position for such a great record.
It opens with "Sehnsucht", which starts slowly and blooms into a beautiful melody. The keyboard and drums are at the front in this introduction to the Folk Metal lore of EQUILIBRIUM. The sound of this piece is almost sensual.
The one thing you can always count on when it comes to EQUILIBRIUM is the research in the melody. Their sound is always polished and angled towards pleasing your ears. "Erwachen", "Katharsis" and "Heimat" are a trilogy of that exact sound. The hook of "Erwachen" is incredible; a fantastic way to start an album. The marriage of keyboard and guitar will leave you breathless. "Katharsis" also includes some chorus by the rest of the band to bring this song to an epic level.
Talking about epic levels, the next song in line is "Born to be Epic". This is the first English language song of the album and it hits the spot. The sound is truly "epic" and, if you get the chance to watch the video, will give you a few "what the hell" moments. This will probably be one of the most demanded songs of their next few tours.
Interestingly enough, they have a few more English songs on this album. "Rise Again", "Prey" and "Eternal Destination" are all great songs with a beautiful sound. They're either fast like "Rise Again" or slow like "Prey", and the band gave their all to sing a few songs in this international language. I guess they wanted to please a larger audience. It doesn't remove anything from their insane level of musicianship and Robert doesn't have any problem with the English accent.
This is definitely one of the best albums that I've had the pleasure to listen to this year. I definitely recommend it to everyone that loves any kind of Melodic Metal. Even if you've never heard of EQUILIBRIUM before, you'll get entangled in their world and shall never want to leave it.
