Known in the underground for their debut album and old school Death Metal classic "Inside the Unreal" from 1993, ELECTROCUTION return with their third album, "Psychonolatry". This is their second album since their reunion in 2012.

One band that I would relate this album to right away is HATE ETERNAL, especially on tracks like "Divine Retribution". It has that same speed and a fairly identical ferocity and attitude. The music is borderline technical and kicks major ass. The music has a lot of depth to it and the guitarist is all over the fretboard. "Of Blood and Flesh" is one track that shows Electrocution's technicality in full. The song also has nice grooves.

Depth is something that is very prevalent with this band. "Misanthropic Carnage" (not a SEVERE TORTURE cover) has a nice melody made by the lead guitar during the chorus. There is also a segment of the song where the bass solos over dual melodizing guitars. Also, about a third into "Malum Intra Nos Est" there is this completely crazy section that unfortunately only lasts about two measures. Everywhere on this album there is depth, and that makes this album so much better.

The songwriting on this album is also good. While there are some things that I would've changed like not fading out "Malum Intra Nos Est" and making a few passages and riffs last longer, most of the material was well-written. One thing that was cool was the use of sound effects like the bell on "Organic Disease of the Sensory Organs" or the gun cocking in "Malum Intra Nos Est". These added to the overall heaviness and made for interesting transitions.

One thing that particularly bugs me is the production. Better production would definitely make this music sound better because there is a lot to listen to. The music is so layered and it's complex enough where it needs better production. I feel like I'm not catching everything, and I would blame the poor production on that. It's not like the production hurts the score of the album, but it would sound so much better with the right production.

Overall, this is a fierce album. It's fast, heavy, technical and abrasive. The attitude on each track is very present. The music has a lot of depth, giving something new to hear that you didn't hear before every time you listen to it. ELECTOCUTION made a great album this year.
