Seeds of Rage
Eldritch

This is the debut album of the Italian ex-progsters / ex-metalcore / current-I am not sure they know what they are playing band, Eldritch. Seeds Of Rage was released back in 1995, during a time period when Progressive Metal was the synonym to the Dream Theater clones. Eldritch back then had indeed a Dream Theater base but it was obvious that they had an eye open for more Power Metal stuff.
The sound of Seeds Of Rage can be described as a mixture of technical music / Progressive Metal / a touch of Italian spaghetti Metal of the certain era. Fans of more extreme prog are probably already into this release but those of you who got to know Eldritch from their last couple releases will definitely not dig this one. As with every debut album, there is an identity problem and some times there's a feeling of ok, so now what are we playing? (something rather normal for the level of complexity found here). Terence Holler was a kick-ass singer since then so his performance in this album is excellent.
The album has been remastered by R.D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy) but the sound can still be considered really thin and low class (compared to today's productions). This re-release also includes five bonus songs - four of them are Demo recordings (with the known Demo quality production) plus one rehearsal outtake of Chains included in the band's latest studio album. Nice songs but not something worth dying for (mostly for the diehard Eldritch fans).
As a re-release this one is well taken care of. I don't know if there is a new booklet or something to add more value for money. For those of you into prog metal as Dream Theater defined in their first couple of albums, you will probably like this one as well.
