Eisenhauer - Horse of Hell album cover

This is the second release from these guys from Germany. They released a full-length album in 2013. This is only an EP, but its 28 minutes of pure goodness. It has a lot of various influences from a number of genres. Musically, it's pretty much a hodge-podge, but I can safely say that the vocals are not the weakest point of the band. The singer has a pretty deep voice that could have fit more in maybe Goth Metal, and he doesn't have a great range, unfortunately. There is no real emotion most of the time and sometimes it really falls flat on its face. The music is really good and goes into a lot of different directions.

''Horse of Hell'' makes me think of traditional heavy metal, maybe with a dash of New Wave of British Heavy Metal. A little bit of SAXON mixed with the slower IRON MAIDEN songs. It's the title track of this EP, and like I said beforehand, the vocalist doesn't show much range or emotion; he really tries, but I felt it was really uneven, unfortunately.

The first song off of this EP is ''Sail my Soul''. This is the most stoner track of the EP. It sounds more like the 70's stoner giants like BLACK SABBATH than anything that is darker, like COVEN or any funeral doom metal bands from back in the day. The voice of the singer does fit more on this one a hell of a lot more than the aforementioned title track. It's a pretty groovy song and has some killer riffs. Not mind numbing shredding, but more melody driven riffs. It almost has that Bluesy type feeling that a lot of Stoner Rock had back in the 70's and 80's.

''Never Surrender'' is the fastest track of the EP. It has some influences from good old NWOBHM as well, but it's still in the same vein as ''Horse of Hell''. Not a big fan of the chorus, but the lyrics and rhythm of the song is pretty on point! It's a little bit better than the title track but the vocalist still has a lot of effort to do to grab my attention. I feel he is going through the motions most of the time.

As for the last track, it's a mix of the guitar rock we all know and love, with a dash of speed metal. It's a fun track, probably their best effort. I like the fusion of the styles and it's a definite must hear! It has that raw emotion of guitar rock (maybe like some TED NUGENT or really early SCORPIONS) and it has some really fast sequences. It feels good to listen to this track and it's a great way to finish off this EP.

I really hated the vocals but the music really helped out immensely to enjoy this release nevertheless.<
