Welcome
Dun Ringill
There are bands that are trying desperately to evade any labeling of their work, or to use different elements to become different from those that are in the mean between good ones and those that don't deserve to be heard with full attention. The Swedish Doom Rockers of DUN RINGILL are a good name, has a bright future, but need to improve a bit more, as their album "Welcome" shows.
Their musical work is really good, a blend of Doom Rock (it's a concept of a musical way that isn't as heard and heavy as Doom Metal, but bears some of its elements in a more accessible form of music that is near Rock 'n' Roll and Hard Rock) with some elements that are different from the usual, as the flutes on the calm and tender parts of "Welcome to the Fun Fair Horror Time Machine" (there are pianos as well) in a trend that can remind a lot what JETHRO TULL would be if it was a bit musically heavier. Yes, they're good, but some evolution must happen, because in the heavier parts, the band seems a lot with countless others, and such long songs can bore a lot those that aren't into this musical genre.
The sound quality of the album was conceived to bring together their rough aggressiveness with the accessible feeling that is presented on their melodies, but always being clear for the listener. Yes, it sounds aggressive and melodic, but always in a way that can be easily understood and absorbed by the listeners' senses.
The album is lovely in some moments, as on the easy melodies of "Welcome to the Fun Fair Horror Time Machine" (it is slow and bitter, and sounds nasty and crude as BLACK SABBATH was in the past in some moments, with very good vocals), the charming energy of "Open Your Eyes (And See the Happiness and Truth)" (again song that presents slow tempos, but the chorus is really lovely, and the guitar riffs are great), and the contrast between the sad harmonies with the crude ambience of "The Demon Within" (great bass guitar and drums works) are the songs that really turns the work of hearing this album a pleasure. But once more: shorter songs would work in a better way.
DUN RINGILL needs to improve, but "Welcome" is a promise of an excellent name that is coming.
