Double Square - Promo 2005 - DEMO album cover

When I got this promo CD in my hands, I was very happy to see that I was going to review an ex-templar's and a good friend's band. Costas Papadopoulos is a good friend, as well as Costas Tassakos. Let me tell you something about these two guys. Whenever they do something, it can't be less than good.
The evil twins, Costas and Costas, were members of the Greek Thrash Metal band Verdict Denied. They formed Double Square in September 2004. As you see we're talking about a new band here. The vocals and the drums were occupied by Steve (Airged L'Amh) and Fotis Vernardos (Nightrage). Then, they were both replaced by Dimitris and Vagelis. After their reunion with Verdict Denied and some small problems with the lineup, Double Square only managed to release this promo CD. Vagelis left the band and now Double Square are in search of a new drummer.
I will try to avoid falling into the they're my friends trap. Ok, let's start. Double Square are a groovy (oh my God, I love this word) Hardcore/Death Metal band. They seem to be based on drum & bass lines a lot. When you have a bassist like Tassakos you're justified for doing that! Anyway, as the band says, they tried to form a band that would mix bands like Pantera, Black Label Society and Six Feet Under and they did it! They maintained Six Feet Under's groove and brutal vocals, Pantera's great rhythm section and Black Label Society's guitar shredding. What do we have? An explosive result! Great tracks that you'll want to listen to again and again. Especially This Way To Heaven is the track I listen to every single day. Without sounding common, Double Square is a band that you rarely come across these days. They tried to avoid falling into any trend and they achieved creating a unique sound! I think that the future hides a lot of pleasant surprises for them!
The only thing that is bad about this release is that it's not for sale. And they don't have any official website in order to download the tracks. Try to have a taste of their music. I don't think that you will be disappointed. Not at all! I'm just waiting for future releases by this band. Great work! I just wish them good luck in whatever they do!
